Track: Sleepless ft. Anthony For Cleopatra
While I was on the road and cranking the J’s this afternoon I discovered this little pearl.
Harley Streten aka ‘Flume’ is a 19 year old producer from Sydney who sure knows how to construct some sweet and chilled electronica grooves.
Within the first 30 seconds of the tune Sleepless starting I had a massive grin on my face and my head bobbing. I can totally see this song being used in an epic surfing or snowboarding sequence.
Check it out if you’re a fan of chillout electronica; I think you’ll love it!

Although I like to claim that I have a diverse taste in music, my truely loved genre growing up was punk rock. I used to crank that stuff non stop from grade 8 through to 12 not even giving any other musical styles a chance (with the exception of Bob Marley).
I stumbled upon local Adelaide act HighTIME a few months back and fell in love with their sweet combination of punk, ska & reggae. It returned me back to mid 90’s 3-chord skate punk: the angst, the energy, the speed … but most of all just rough around the edges tunes that weren’t overly polished in production.
I dig these guys (and girl!), hopefully you do too!
Cheers,
Chad

Track: Summer's Raga
Album: The Neglected Mixtape.
About 3 years ago, I met a guy named Dylan at “The Rescue” in DC, a big event put on by Invisible Children. After hanging out with this kid, playing the d’jimbe through the rain that night, we proceeded to run into each other often, even going to a mutual friend’s wedding in Athen’s, GA. I think Dylan is pretty cool, yeah….
Anyway, he sent me his recent album a few months ago and I am finally getting this on here. This moniker, “Diligence”, became his project, and it’s awesome. This song has some awesome beats, and utilizes a sitar. Bam. Get this album at his BANDCAMP now. NOW.
Enjoy!

Track: Secrets
Album: Tightrope EP
Late last year I was cranking the j’s on my way from work and this sweet tune hit my car speakers.
“Secrets” by Melbourne based act No Love For Lexi is a fine piece of work. It’s a combination of the late 90’s/early 00’s Aussie alternate rock in the same vein as Something For Kate with the emo tinge of The Juliana Theory’s first works.
I haven’t seen these fellas perform live nor have I heard any other tunes of theirs but if this tune is anything to go by I definitely have something to look forward to.

Track: Animal Life
Album: Animal Joy
Dear friends, it’s been too long.
Chad and I have been flat out like a lizard drinking (apparently that is Aussie slang for “busy”) and we have neglected all the great music out there! So let’s get it going again.
Today’s track is a “Animal Life” by Shearwater, a band from Austin, Texas and damn, they are good. Made up of members from Okkervil River and other bands, this is just wonderful lay-back-relax-and-make-yourself-dinner music.Jonathan Meiburg’s vocals are as haunting as they are beautiful in this folk/indie inspired track. The beat is perfect for walking to and I just can’t get this one out of my head.
I hope you enjoy this one, the album is due out soon, but this track is available on the band’s soundcloud. GET IT.
